I watched Logan this past weekend and thoroughly enjoyed it. I managed to stay spoiler-free, so certain events in the movie totally wrecked me, but I thought it was a fantastic and fitting last installment for Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine character. X-23 was great and I would totally watch a spinoff movie based on that character…perhaps the next generation of mutants will be lead by her. I highly recommend this film, especially if you are a fan of Wolverine and have felt, like me, that the last several X-Men movies featuring the character have been sub-par and you’ve been hoping for a really good Wolverine film.
Those of you who watched Beauty and the Beast this weekend were treated to the new Wonder Woman trailer on the big screen. I think this is my favourite trailer so far for this movie. Previous trailers have been somewhat vague on plot details and other elements of this movie, but this new trailer focuses squarely on Diana Prince’s origin story and it’s spectacular. So much so that I wrote a new piece for Batman News about 10 Things to Note in Wonder Woman Trailer #3. Check it out and let me know if you saw the trailer and picked up on anything I missed.
There was a bit of breaking news on Friday in the Henry Cavill world. Mission: Impossible 6 director Chris McQuarrie announced Henry’s casting in the movie via his Instagram account and the comments back and forth between him and Henry. I wrote a news piece for Flickering Myth. No news yet on what part he’ll play, but I would love to see him play a villain. He’s been a good guy in almost every film so far and he could put that British accent to good use as a bad guy.
I started watching Marvel’s Iron Fist this weekend and managed to get through two episodes. I have to agree with the general consensus from reviews so far that the series’ big issue is pacing or lack thereof. I like what I’m seeing so far, but have been frustrated with the slow buildup and lack of answers as to what happened to Danny Rand and why is he now coming back? I’m willing to give it a shot, but something more needs to happen in the next few episodes to keep my interest up.
Finally, I was lucky enough to sit in the audience for a taping of America’s Got Talent on NBC in Pasadena. My wife and kids and I spent several hours waiting to get inside and then several more hours watching performers come on stage and get grilled by the judges (Simon Cowell, Heidi Klum, Mel B., and Howie Mandel). Tyra Banks is the new host after Nick Cannon left the show. I’m not so sure I like her, but I’m holding judgement until we see the episode air and we see how she does off stage with the performers. It was exhausting, but fun to see how these kinds of shows get put together and will be even more curious to see how they edit down four hours of footage into a one hour program, but we won’t see this until May or June.
